Fellow members

Fellow membership is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and professional attributes required across the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) competence frameworks, enabling them to act as a neutral and independently manage the ADR process in at least one discipline, such as arbitration, mediation or adjudication. This grade recognises experienced professionals who have developed a strong and comprehensive understanding of ADR principles and practice through advanced training, recognised qualifications, or significant professional experience. Fellowship represents one of the highest levels of professional recognition within Ciarb. Individuals who attain this grade are entitled to use the designation FCIArb, reflecting their expertise and professional standing within the global dispute resolution community. Fellows may also have their professional profiles listed in the Ciarb’s Member’s Directory, enhancing their visibility and credibility within the field.

Requirements

If you’re interested in becoming a Fellow, you must complete one of the following qualifications as part of the pathways to Fellow membership. 

• The Ciarb Assessment route - successfully complete any one of Ciarb Module Three or Accelerated Route to Fellowship assessments; *you should apply for membership within two years of completion.
• The Recognised Course Provider route - successfully complete an accredited assessment with one of Ciarb active Recognised Course Providers (RCP) before June 2024; *you should apply for membership within two years of completion.
• The Experience route - have a minimum of ten years of first-hand experience in at least one dispute resolution discipline, such as arbitration, mediation or adjudication. This experience should demonstrate active involvement in managing proceedings, participation in settlement negotiations, and attendance at hearings. You must also have issued at least two awards, decisions or settlement agreements in your capacity as an Arbitrator, Mediator or Adjudicator. What does Fellow membership cost?

All new Fellow applications must be accompanied by a one-off, non-refundable application fee of either £130 or £75, depending on your country of residence, as well as a peer interview fee of £300, £250, or £150, also based on the applicable country tier. 

On successfully passing the Fellow peer interview, you will be required to pay the first year’s membership subscription fee. The membership subscription is charged annually, and the first year’s subscription will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, depending on the date you pass the peer interview.
